Onboarding Process Analysis

I went through the following process:

  1. Registration
  2. Initial setup (working hours, services, providers, design...)
  3. The quick tour and a bit of playing around in the admin panel

It was VERY hard to provide one specific improvement, but I'll try to explain my findings and decisions.

Registration Process Issues

First of all, the registration process (sign-up) seemed clear enough but here are my initial findings:

🚨 Critical Issues Found

  1. No clear way to return to the previous step (e.g. the Address step once you specified it)
  2. Address location delay: Once, the address was pulled from my location only after 5 seconds (very long time), and once - wrong address (though I granted access to it)
  3. Captcha is a killer: Even though we are fighting against bots and test accounts
  4. Small UX annoyances that are not crucial, yet still annoying (like simplybook.me not fitting in the Company URL field)
  5. Email verification: The registration code sent to my email did not automatically populate - had to open the email and manually enter it

Decision: As this is the first step in the Onboarding process, I decided to focus on its improvement for this test task. I will explain why I went with this improvement and discuss one alternative to it that I decided to skip.

Initial Setup Analysis

The initial setup (working hours, services, providers, design...) was the step with the least complaints from me. But one thing was missing, coming in from the registration form...

The current registration form states: "Please choose your business category - Help us suggest the best features for your needs." So I was expecting to see the best custom features that I might want to use based on my business category.

Additional Improvement Opportunities

  • Zoom in/out templates
  • Build a custom template
  • One of the templates is called 'ADA compliant' -- I was expecting all of the templates to be compliant by default

Admin Panel & Quick Tour

The quick tour is a nice feature in the Admin panel. I would expect it to be a bit more detailed -- explain what I can do in each section. Also, the AI assistant is cool, but requires a better UX for user prompt, and probably, a faster response.

There are also some smaller nuances that I noticed, like the Company details having more fields than those during registration - which sounds a bit inconsistent.

Overall Assessment: In general, I would say that the whole Onboarding process requires improvements. The question is - how big of a change are you ready to go for. We can improve on what we have - or revisit and revamp it, all the way to it being partially AI-powered.

Hopefully, I will be able to explain these details and thoughts on our meeting.
